Klito No. 3 Falling Plate Camera

Mobirise

Interior

The stack of plate holders is where the exposed plates would be. The camera is loaded by sliding the bottom of each plate holder onto the rails visible just above the stack. Small pegs inside the top of the camera and hooks at the interior end of the rails stop the plate holders from moving towards the lens when the door is closed and spring pressure applied. After exposure, moving the knob on the top of the body releases one holder which pivots on the hooks and falls horizontally into the stack position and the next unexposed plate is pushed forward to the focal plane. The split rear door allows removal of exposed plates while the unexposed plates remain in position.

Plate Holders

The plate holders are stamped 1 and 2 because the cut-outs at the top are in different positions. The holders are loaded in a 1212... sequence because the retaining pegs are moved either left or right by the knob on the top of the body.  The slots at the bottom of the holders engage with the rails.

The usable area of the negatives was a few millimetres smaller than the holder.
