James Trott baptism: 9 October 1816 Donyatt, Somerset, England father: John Trott mother: Anna

Baptism of James Trott in 1916 child of John and Anna recored in Dr Campbell's Baptism Index

Janet Berry research in Somerset Records Office:
James Trott was baptised at Donyatt Church on 9 October 1816, son of John and Anna Trott.
They lived at Pound, which is just a part of Donyatt and John is described as a labourer.
A James Trott was also baptised on 8 January 1819, together with his sister, Elizabeth, children of John and Anna. At first I thought that the first James Trott had died and this was another one. But I remember my Family History teacher telling me that they often re-baptised an older sibling when another child came along. So maybe that is the explanation.

Dr Campbell's Index shows James Trott marrying Eliza Wilment at Combe St Nicholas in 1844. James' father is given as John. Dr Campbell's Baptisms Index shows Eliza born 1846 as their daughter and they had a son John in 1844.

Name: James Trott Registration Year: 1844 Registration Quarter: Apr-May-Jun Registration district: Chard Inferred County: Somerset Volume: 10 Page: 639
Name: Elizabeth Wilment

Heirloom:
James Trott owned a 'turnip' watch and case (both silvermarked 1826-1827). Papers in case include disc for Bunston of Chard, watch and clockmaker and a scrap of paper inscribed with 'James Trott' - unlikely to be signature because he made his mark on the marriage of his daughter. [Bunston, Thomas of Chard - index of watchmakers]

Bob Trott's e-mail Jan 2000 -
Death of James, Chard March Quarter 1900 aged 84. Wills for James give his death as 31st December 1899, widower and a labourer and his estate went to Eliza Coxon, wife of James - as did that of Elizabeth Trott (wife of James Trott) whose death is given as 8 June 1898 (but perhaps a mistake unless I have got the wrong Registration in March).

Janet Berry's e-mail confirms details below:
