Biographical Souvenir Of The States Of Georgia And Florida - Souvenir Sketches - William H Young
CHARLES R. WEST, of Spring Vale, Ga., was born in Stewart County, Ga., November 36, 1846, and is the son of William and Laura (Pettil) West, the former of "Wilkes County, Ga., and the latter of Warren County, Ga. The latter moved to Stewart County in 1836, where he lived until his death in 1873, at the age of seventy-four years. In early life he gave his attention to the mercantile business, but his later years were spent on the farm. He accumulated large property in his life-time, and was one of the solid men of Stewart County. His wife died in Barnesville, Ga., October 22, 1882, at the age of seventy years. She bore her husband nine children, of whom the subject is the seventh child. His youth was spent on the farm in Stewart County. In early life he followed clerking, and in 1876 engaged in . the mercantile business in Cuthbert for a few months, since which time he lias been farming in McDuffie, Upson, and Randolph Counties, In 1886 he moved to Spring Vale, in Randolph County, and has followed farming and the mercantile business ever since.
February 22, 1883, he was married to Miss Amelia C. Holmes, daughter of James G. and Elizabeth (Prior) Holmes, of Barnesville, Ga. Their home has been blessed by the birth of four children, viz.: Laura P., William Q., Charles R, Jr., and Jasa E. Mr. West is a consistent member of the M. E. Church.

Mr Robert C West, a former citizen of Barnesville and well known to the older citizens of this vicinity, died at his home un Cuthbert Tuesday and his body is expected to arrive in Barnesville Thursday morning for burial in the family lot in Greenwod cemetary. Mr West married Miss Amelia Holmes of Barnesville and for a number of years lived here. He also lived at Topeka, where he engaged in farming. For many years past he had lived in Cuthbert. He was a brother of Mrs J J Rogers [Cornelia] of this city. He is survived by his wife, 3 daughters and one son, who is a student of the University of Georgia.
