San Jose Mercury News (CA) Wed, Apr 11, 1962 Ruby Jane Hartley Private funeral services will be held tomorrow for Mrs. Ruby Jane Hartley, 75, a resident of Santa Clara County for 30 years. She died Sunday in a San Jose hospital after a long illness. A native of Washington, she made her home at 2020 Harrington St., Oakland. Surviving are a brother and sisters, Mrs. Annabel Buxton of San Jose, John Luper of Arizona, Mrs. Grace Fike of Gridley and Mrs. Charles Seeley of Berkeley. Rites will be held at 10 a.m. in the Lima-Salmon-Erickson Memorial Chapel. Interment will be in Santa Clara City Cemetery.

Samuel's parents were Gilbert Cox Luper, Sr and his first wife, Susannah Emaline Ingram. They married in about 1830 and Susannah died in about 1857.
Samuel married first Nancy Phipps on November 13, 1873 in Washington County, Arkansas.
They had no known children. It is presumed that Nancy died young.
Samuel married second Mary Ellen West on August 6, 1884 in Idaho. They had six known children.

SIMEON B. LUPER DIES AT HOME NEAR EMPIRE. EMPIRE, May 22--S. B. Luper, who has resided on his ranch two miles east of Empire for the past three years, died this morning following a lingering illness. Mr. Luper came here from Idaho, and is survived by the widow and six children, five girls and a boy.

SIMON [sic] B. LUPER DEAD Simon [sic] B. Luper, a member of the Brethren colony of Empire, died this morning about 10:30 o'clock at his home on the Waterford road, about a mile east of Empire. The funeral will be held Sunday morning at 10:30 o'clock from the Brethren church at Empire. Interment will be made in the Modesto Cemetery.
Simon [sic] B. Luper was born at Fayetteville, Arkansas, December 10th 1853. He is survived by the widow and five [sic] children, the children being Mrs. Anna Buxton and John Luper of Rockland, Idaho; Mrs. Grace Fike of Nez Perces, Idaho; Mrs. Ruby Hartley of Modesto, and Miss Annie [sic] Luper and Miss Alice Luper, both of whom reside at the family home at Empire.
