(Helen) Sherwood “Sherry” West Sackett, 78, passed away on December 22, 2017 in Williamsburg, Virginia. Sherry grew up in Suffolk, Virginia, was a graduate of Suffolk High School, attended Westhampton College at the University of Richmond and studied radiation technology at the Medical College of Virginia and cardio-vascular radiology at Mary Hitchcock Hospital at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.

She is survived by her children, Reid Sackett Kaski (Mike), Quimby Sackett Campbell, and Gresham Peck Sackett, grandchildren, Shane Kaski, Megan Campbell, Cali Campbell and Sydney Sackett, siblings, Joshua “Jack” Cottingham West IV (Barbara), Virginia “Ginger” West Owen (Bill), and a nephew, nieces and numerous great nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her father and mother, Joshua Cottingham West III and Frances Hutchins West and grandson, Josh Kaski.

Sherry worked with the Ellen Shaw Deparedes Breast Cancer Foundation as the Director of Mammography Outreach Program for Under-served Women, served as a Legislative liaison for Lt. Governor John Hager in the Senate of Virginia, and was a Breast Cancer Detection Awareness Consultant for the National American Cancer Society. In addition, Sherry served as the Professional Education Director of the American Cancer Society, Virginia Division, worked as a Radiology Assistant Administrator at Mary Hitchcock Hospital and served as the Director of Radiology at Maryview Hospital.

Sherry’s life-long love was animals, especially dogs and horses. She raised champion English Cocker Spaniels for several years at her Southwold Kennels, finding a love of wire-haired dachshunds late in life. Sherry thoroughly enjoyed being a member of the Deep Run Hunt Club for years, playing tennis, showing her dogs and photography. Sherry gave back to her community as a volunteer for the Goochland County Fire-Rescue Association and worked as a volunteer of the James River Chapter of the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation Feed Program. Sherry’s free-spirited life led to many friendships all over the world and her zest for life will be missed by many.

A reception for family and friends will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church on January 20, 2018 at 2:00PM.
