The will of Mary West's father, Levi, indicates that she married a man named Melton.
BENJAMIN MELTON wrote his will on 9 November 1800. It was proved at the January Court in Onslow, NC in 1803. The important clue that makes Benjamin the likely Melton candidate to be her husband is the names of the witnesses. They are James West and Joseph Smellage. James was a brother of Mary West Melton. Joseph Smellage was Mary's brother-in-law, the husband of her sister Julietta.

2nd: I give and bequeath unto my two sons, Thomas Melton and Andrew Melton, seventy five acres of land whereon I now live; if one of them should die under age or without lawful begotten heirs, for the other to have his land, to them, their heirs and assigns forever.
3rd: I give and bequeath to my daughter Mary Ann Melton one cow and calf or yearling, one bed and furniture, one basin and two plates, one iron pot, if she should die under age or without lawful begotten heirs, for her two brothers to heir her estate, to her heirs and assigns forever.
