MR AND MRS WILLIAM TERRY WEST Hoover Beverly Sue Hoover and William Terry West were united in marriage at 2 pm Sept 5 at the First Baptist Church with the Rev Rex Hagan of Glasgow and the Rev Richard Patton of Portland Tenn officiating the double-ring ceremony The bride is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Ewing R Hoover of Glasgow and the groom is the son of Mr and Mrs Cecil D West of Portland Tenn Piano music was provided by Cindy Stewart of Sunfish and the vocalist was Joy Hunk of Tompkinsville The bride given in marriage by her uncle Roger McCoy wore a traditional floor-length gown of white organza in a wide A-line silhouette The bodice fashioned with a high crown collar of Chantilly lace resting above a low sheer rounded yoke was embellished with a pearl encrusted Chantilly lace ruffle draping over the shoulders The natural waist was accented by a Chantilly lace scalloped band and an organza sweetheart bow in the back She wore a contoured headdress of matching lace with a drifting mid-shoulder mantilla veil of misty white illusion with a wide border of French alencon framing her face She earned a white traditional Bible which was a gift from the groom Teresa James of Penrod was maid of honor Bridesmaids were Janice House of London Rolanda Urban of Nashville Tenn and Pam Carter of Glasgow The junior bridesmaid was Amy Hoover sister of the bride of Glasgow Sara West neice of the groom of Hendersonville Tenn was flower girl Cecil West father of the groom was best man Groomsmen were David West brother of the groom of Hendersonville Tenn Dennis Young of Elizabethtown and Chris Copas of Dayton Ohio The junior groomsman was Master Matt West nephew of the groom of Hendersonville Tenn Brent West nephew of the groom of Portland Tenn was ring bearer Ushers were Elbert Hunley Jr cousin of the bride of Glasgow and David Cherry of Bowling Green A reception followed in the church social center After a wedding trip to Gatlinburg Tenn and Myrtle Beach S C the couple will reside in Highland Gardens

Mrs. Alice M. West, age 85 of Portland, TN. passed away Friday, July 14, 2016 at her home in Portland. Mrs. West was born April 9, 1931. A native of Fairview, TN, she was the daughter of the late Aaron Nelson and Evie Mae Wright.
Mrs. West is survived by her husband, Vernon Allen West of Portland, TN. Two daughters, Debra Moody and Donna West both of Portland, TN. Two sons, John West of Cookeville, TN and Michael West of Portland, TN. A brother, Thelbert Wright of Fairview, TN. A sister, Cleola Mangram (JT) of Fairview, TN. Five grandchildren, Carrie Mendoza, Kelly Lovell, Nathan West, Sarah West, and Demi Williams. Four great grandchildren, Ella Mendoza, Kailie Donley, Emma Donley, and Kyla Donley. Several nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, Alice was preceded in death by a sister, Gladys and three brothers, Nelson, Othel, and Sewell Wright. She was a graduate of Hillsboro High. Family and friends were Alice’s passion and delight. She and her husband started the first coin operated laundry in Portland, and Alice was the first female bus driver in Sumner County. Alice was a member of First Baptist Church in Portland, TN.
Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, July 18, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Gilbert Funeral Home in Portland, TN. with burial to follow at Maple Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from Noon until 8:00 PM Sunday and from 9:00 AM until service time Monday at Gilbert Funeral Home.
