West, 79, of Carbondale, passed away at 11:40 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 26, 1998, at St. Joseph Memorial Hospital of Murphysboro. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 30, 1998, at Meredith Fu neral Home, Carbondale, with the Rev. F r a n k 1 y n Schroeder offi- West c i a t i n g . rnends may call from 10 a.m. until time of the service, Monday, Nov. 30, 1998, at Meredith Funeral Home, Carbon dale. Interment will be at De Soto Cemetery, De Soto. Memorials may be made to the Mount Calvary Lu theran Church, 144 S. Oak, De Soto, IL 62924 and will be accepted at the funeral home. James was born Dec. 11, 1918, in Centralia, 111., the son of Daniel Adolphus and Isabel (Helm) West. He married Hazel Hill on May 4, 1940, at Cape Girardeau, Mo. She survives and is of Carbondale. Other survivors include, one daughter and son-in-law, Sherri and Terry Hale of Carbondale; three grandchildren, Shawna, Line and Rick Hale, all of Carbondale; five great-grandchildren; and one foster brother, Howard Craig of Chicago. James is preceded in death by Ids parents and one daughter, Brenda West. Mr. West wTas a member of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, De Soto, the Eagles Club and Elks Lodge 1243, both of Carbondale, and the De Soto Masonic Lodge. James and Hazel owned and op erated West Bus Service since Oc tober 1961. James served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army.
