Wit: Council Fields, Jas. Reed.

WHO IS NEPHEW ELI WEST?
The will of ELI WEST ESQ. names a nephew, also Eli West, who is underage and living with the family. Presumably, this child is an orphan come to live with his rich uncle. If he was age 6-16 in 1797 when the will was written, his DoB would be about 1781-1791. The 1800 census lists a male of 16-26 living with Eli's widow Kear West in Onslow, NC. That date range would be 1774-1784. Combining the two ranges would put Eli's DoB about 1781-1784.

Brothers of ELI WEST, Esq.:
Levi West: Does not name a son Eli in his 1787 will. Eli would've only been 3-13years of age - too young to be disinherited.
George West: Died in MD c1761. Documented will. No Children.
Elias West: Died in MD c1763. Documented death mentioned in administration. Date before Eli's est. DoB.
Amos West: Nothing currently known about Amos.
Elijah West: Died in Sussex, DE in 1791. Children included Eli (b1781) and Elijah (b1788), both in or near appropriate age range for nephew Eli. Neither son has documented history in NC.
