TAHLEQUAH -- Services for Ada Geneva Holden-Draper, 80, of Tahlequah, will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 28, 2004, at the Hart Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Arlis Moon, of the Calvary Assembly of God, officiating. Musical selections will be performed by Joy James and J. C. Coons. Interment will follow at Blue Springs Cemetery under the direction of Hart Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers will be Watie Shade, Mitch Anderson, Howard Anderson, Cliff Downs, Ulf Erenius and Max King. Honorary pallbearers will be Harold Rainwater, Jeremy Holden, Brandon Holden and Chris Crane.
Geneva was born one of six children to Elisha and Effie (Cooper) Anderson on Jan. 31, 1924, in Tahlequah, and passed peacefully from this life on Feb. 24, 2004, in Tahlequah. Geneva grew up and lived her entire life in Tahlequah. Upon graduating from high school, she attended Northeastern University, where she obtained her degree and later her master's degree in education.
On June 7, 1943, she married her first husband Ray Holden. Together they raised a son, Ray Holden, in Tahlequah. Geneva spent 43 years teaching at Westville and Sequoyah Elementary and Sequoyah High Schools. She loved her students and enjoyed opening their eyes to the world of knowledge. An avid reader, she loved to read and spent quality time at the Tahlequah Public Library. When at home, she could be found accompanying her husband Ray as he tended their cattle and horses, and raising the most beautiful roses. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Tahlequah and taught Sunday school there for many years. When Ray passed away in 1992, Geneva later married her second husband, George Draper, and lived in Arroyo Grande, Calif., with him from 1993-2000, when she returned to Tahlequah to be closer to the family she loved. She cherished most the time she spent with her son, her three grandchildren and two very special great-grandsons. She will be greatly missed by all the lives she touched.
Geneva is preceded in death by her beloved parents; her husband Ray Holden; and second husband George Draper in 2000; and two loving brothers and one sister, Bud Anderson, Harrold Anderson, and Dorothy Anderson-Draper.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her son, Ray A. Holden and his wife Betsy of Tahlequah; three cherished grandchildren, Jeremy Holden and wife Debbie of Lewisville, Texas, Shannon and husband Chris Crane of Tahlequah, and Brandon Holden of Tahlequah; two very special great-grandsons, River Crane of Tahlequah and Hunner Holden Of Oklahoma City; one brother, Andy Anderson; one sister, Elva Anderson-Draper; many nieces, nephews, cousins; as well as a host of friends and loved ones.
