Ruby V. Duncan Dies in Capital
Ruby V. Duncan, 61, a former resident of Grass Valley and licensed vocational nurse at the Nevada County Hospital, died Sunday at the American River Hospital in Sacramento.
A native of Hartshorne, Okla., she received her early education there before coming to California in 1925, where she met and married her husband Wilbur. In 1937 she and her husband came to Grass Valley, where they lived until 1942, when they traveled to Richmond to work in the shipyards.
In 1945 they returned to Grass Valley where they remained until 1955 when they moved first to Oroville and later to Sacramento. While in Grass Valley she became well known for her ability to grow and arrange flowers.
She is survived by her husband Wilbur; a son Bruce of Sacramento; a daughter Billie June Frost of Grass Valley; sisters, Donna Ford of Mansfield, Mo and Myrtle Hendrickson of Oklahoma; a brother Dewey Smith of Oklahoma, and five grandchildren.
The Rev. Carl Sandbeck of Peace Lutheran Church will officiate at services at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Hooper-Weaver Chapel. Interment will follow in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
