Avis Lorraine Rosa was born on April 15, 1926 at her home in Derby, IA to Albert and Jessie (Swartz) Hutchings. She went to be with her Savior on Tuesday October 13, 2015, at her home located south of Chariton, IA. Avis attended elementary school in Derby until the age of 9 when her family moved to Chariton. She graduated from Chariton High School in 1944. She started working at the Lucas County Telephone Company at 16 years old as an operator and worked there until she married. On February 8, 1953 Avis married Charles Rosa at the First Baptist Church in Chariton and to this union 3 sons were born: Paul, Mark, and David. Charles and Avis spent their entire marriage on the family farm. When Avis was 14 years old she was baptized and started her 75 year membership at the First Baptist Church. She dedicated her life to God, her husband, and her family. She was very caring and selfless, always putting others before herself. Her family will greatly miss the love she shared with them. Avis is preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers and 2 sisters. She is survived by her husband, Charles, sons: Paul (Ruth), Ft. Dodge, IA, Mark (Deb), Chariton, IA, and David (Jean), Chariton, IA; 6 grandchildren: Andrea (Brad) Hanse, Ft. Dodge, IA, Daniel (Beth) Rosa, Pomeroy, IA, Jason (Craig) Rosa, Des Moines, IA, Jana (Jim) Daisy, Ankeny, IA, Adam Rosa, Chariton, IA, and Amanda (Matthew) Peterson, Lucas, IA; 15 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday October 16, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Fielding Funeral Home with visitation Thursday evening from 6:00-8:00 PM. Interment will be held at the Chariton Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to First Baptist Church or Circle of Friends Homecare.
