Clara Phillips West,
85, of the New River community, passed away suddenly Friday morning, June 21, 1985, at the Clarksville Memorial Hospital in Clarksville following a lingering illness. Mrs. West had been in Clarksville visiting her daughter, Evelyn Schmitz. The daughter of the late Joseph Phillips and the late Louvernia Keatherly Phillips, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Henry Claiborn West; two sons: Ray and Clarence West, both having lost their lives in service during World War II; and one sister, Ella Phillips. She was a member of the New River Missionary Baptist Church. She is survived by one daughter, Evelyn Schmitz of Clarksville; two sons: Claude West of Robbins, and Kenneth West of Oneida; six grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 23, at the New River Missionary Baptist Church, with Rev. Johnny Zachary and Rev. Carl Jeffers officiating. The Goad Family sang. Burial followed in the Reed Cemetery in the New River community. Pallbearers were: Steve Garrett, Marshall Lloyd, Gary L. Lowe, Donald Newport, D. T. Newport, and Johnny Yancey. West-Murley Funeral Home in Oneida was in charge of the arrangements.

Two West Brothers Are Buried Sunday - Bodies of Brothers Are Returned From Overseas - Two brothers, CLARENCE B. and RAY WEST, of New River will be buried next Sunday, November 21. The brothers are sons of Mr. and Mrs. H. CLABE WEST of New River. Both were killed overseas in World War II. Funeral service is planned at the Huntsville High School Sunday afternoon at two o'clock with Rev. L. M. JEFFERS officiating. Scott county post American Legion will assist at the service and will do honors at the grave. Surviving are their parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. C. WEST of New River; two brothers, CLAUDE and KENNETH of New River; one sister, Miss EVELYN WEST of New River, and a number of relatives. RAY was married and leaves a daughter, LINDA RAE, six years of age. Interment in the Reed cemetery at New River with Cooper's in charge.
