My sister, Pamela, was struck by a drunk driver while she was driving back from an audition for an accompanist position. She lingered in a coma for six weeks and then died. That was in 1974; she was 17 and graduating from High School; she was selected for the pianist position so she was in a very good frame of mind when disaster struck. Pam and I were very close; the two eldest were grown and on their own.

My brother, John, and I became quite close after this, in fact he moved here from the east coast in order to be near me/us. He died in a freak accident in the practice heat of a motorcycle race in 1980; he was 30. He regularly raced and this was the kind of thing that had not happened before or since, to my knowledge.

West, 31, formerly of Buffalo and Niagara Falls, died here Sunday (Dec. 7, 1980) at March Air Force Base, following a motorcycle racing accident which occurred at a sanctioned meet in Riverside. Mr. West lived in San Diego, where he managed a motorcycle sales agency. He had recently opened his own business, Rocket Motorcycle, of La Mesa, Calif. Mr. West was born in Niagara Falls. After graduating from LaSalle High School there in 1967, he lived in Buffalo and attended the State University of Buffalo before moving to San Diego about six years ago. Surviving are his wife, the former Celia Kuhn; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William A. West of Walnut, Calif. and two sisters, Adrienne West of Walnut and Victoria Sparacio of Niagara Falls.

The eldest of our four is Victoria and she has two daughters. She left for college the year I started Kindergarten and she has always lived in the East while I have always been in Southern California. She and I exchange a few emails and occasional calls but not much contact. She is retired but works part time as a nurse in an orthopaedic surgery practice.
