Carol LaMar West, 78, died at his home in Ajo on April 24, 2007. He was born July 15, 1928, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, the son of Lena and Bill West. He attended East High School in Waterloo, Iowa. During the Korean War, he served in the 101 st Airborne. Mr. West made a career as an auto mechanic.
He married twice, first to Wilma Squier and second to Bertha Acosta.
He was a member of the VFW and of the Hudson-Essex-Terraplane Club.
He came to Ajo from Gila Bend in 2004.
Car restoration and reading American history were among his interests.
Mr. West was preceded in death by his sons Scott West and Wesley West.
He is survived by his sons Douglas West of Japan, Jeffrey West of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Michael West of Los Angeles, California; by his daughter, Sue Koehn of Cedar Falls, Iowa; by his brothers, Bill West and Dick West, both of Florida; and by his sixteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
Graveside services with military honors were held Monday, May 14, at Forest Lawn in Glendale, California.

INDEPENDENCE - Gene M. West, 69, of Independence and formerly of Cedar Rapids, died at his home Thursday, April 1, 2010, following a long illness. He was born Aug. 15, 1940, in Chicago, the son of Edgar Henry and Louise Elizabeth (Trimble) West. On Sept. 16, 1960, he and the former Winona Jean Zimmerman were married in Cedar Rapids. Mr. West is survived by his wife of 49 years, Winona, 3 sons, Steven (LaDonna) West of Anamosa, Iowa, Edward (Deborah) West of Marion, Iowa, and Russell (Nikki) West of Winthrop, Iowa, 15 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren.
