A longtime Crawford County resident Olie L. West, 78. of the Graphic Communitv near Mountainburg, died Friday in a Fort Smith hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Vera; two sons, Arvil of Mountainburg, and Andrew of Broken Arrow, Okla.; one sister, Mrs Lena Pope of Oilton, Okla., and one grandchild.

Note: Rhodes A. West is the son of James S. West. Apparently, after his wife's death James asked Lucinda Moore to care for the baby. Sheryl Scott Cobb reports that after the death of his wife, within days of the baby's birth, 'gave' Rhodes to Lucinda Moore. She was Mary Armstrong (Crawford) West's older sister who married John P. Moore and lived in Washington County, Arkansas. Lucinda was 50 when Rhodes came to live with her.]

William P West was born in Washington County, Arkansas in 1841.
William P West is by trade a boot and shoe maker and is also a farmer. In 1861 he enlisted in the Arkansas State troops and after taking part in several battles the same year, enlisted in Company E Fist Battalion, Arkansas Calvary. He passed through many more battles and received his first wound, a slight one, October 4 1862, in the second fight at Corinth; in August, 1863 he was twice wounded at Grenada, Mississippi, across the throat and in the knee, the latter wound crippling him for life. When he had recovered he went out as an independent, and so continued until the close of the war. He then located at Boonesboro, Arkansas and went into the boot and shoe business..
February 23 1871 Mr West married Miss Mary J Campbell, daughter of William Campbell, a saddle and harness maker of Tennessee, but who died in Arkansas. To this union were born two children, named Annie K and Lillie E. Mrs Mary J West was great-grandaughter of Mr Queener, a noted iron founder of Campbell County Tennessee and a member of one of the first families. This lady died May 7 1879 and on May 5 1880 Mr West married Sarah J Womack daughter of William C Womack who was born in Arkansas and was killed at Fort Smith while in the army and granddaughter of William Womack who was murdered on Red River in Texas in 1846. To this second marriage of Mr West have been born four children-James S, William F, Mary E and Hattie L..
Soon after his second marriage Mr West came to Texas (in 1880) and begain farming and merchandising, having a partner in charge of his mercantile business.
