Gaylon was born in Oklahoma, to parents Wilburn and Sarah West. The family moved to California when he was 4 years old, during the dust bowl. He served in the US Army for two years. Gaylon is a graduate of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. He worked as an Electronic Engineer for 45 years of government service.
Gaylon is survived by his wife, Pat and their three children, Tracy, Michael and Kristina, seven grandchildren (Kristen, Ally, Evan, Taylor, Sawyer, Nicole and Hailey), and Gaylon's Brother and Sister-in -law, Wyman West and Lisa West.
