James Marshall West born July 7th and died. He married Sally Everhart (correction: Sallie Everheart in Grayson Co., TX marriage records) and died in Texas. To this union were born 4 children:
Willie West; died in infancy
Nora West; married Tom Montgomery; she died at Roff, Oklahoma
Birdie West; married W. I. Higdon; she died April 1912; he died Mar 1940; they lived near Cyril, Oklahoma
Henry Marshall West

James M. West married in 1887 in Texas to Ann Ophelia Davidson. Children of Anna Davidson:
Nancy Susie West born in Texas; married Mr. W. V. Whitaker; now living near Trousdale. Farming.
Infant West, died.
Paul Ellis West, Carpenter at Tecumseh, Okla. Mr. West came to Oklahoma the year after the run on Dec 25, 1892 with his Aunt Maud, Joe Davidson and there mother and family which consisted of Marshall’s father, step-mother, Susie 3 years old then,
Nora & Birdie. Crossed at Johnsonville on Dec 25, 1892. He also remembers on that trip stopping at Johnsonville, Oklahoma which was a little place not so far from the South Canadian River, here he bought some striped peppermint candy. Camped at John Williams place, later bought and moved near Trousdale on Salt Creek 2 ½ miles east of Trousdale. There was 6 wagons in all. 10 heads of cattle. It took 9 days to make the trip of 150 miles and saw the sun once in 9 days. Forded the icy Canadian river and paid a man 50 cents to ride a head and lead the way across the icy South Canadian. Moved 2 miles east and ½ mile north of Trousdale, Oklahoma on Salt Creek. Page 5 Attended church at Pioneer and organized in the Spring of 1894. First Methodist Church at Pioneer organized at Joe Davidson’s old log house. Charter members at Hancock Spring Camp meeting: Susan Davidson, mother of Maud Joe Davidson Maud Davidson Williams (that year Aunt Maud married Uncle John Williams) James M. West Anna Davidson West Rev. Gibson and wife; he was preacher at that time Mr. Roper and wife We met in the afternoon and organized the church. We built an arbor that Summer. We held revival meetings and built a 18 x 18 foot log school house. That Fall Marshall remembers oxen pile logs to make the school house. He followed a wagon pulled by loaded with flour. The school and church were held in this building for 6 years. Then we built a frame building. It burned about 1932. All that time, the school and church were held there. Mr. Baker broke acres all over country with oxen. I can haul black jacks up like corn. Marshall has seen six yokes of oxens (12 oxen) to one plow. First reverend preachers were; 1) Rev. Gibson 2) Rev. Amos 3) Frank Ray Page 6 Marshall’s place was willed to him by his father. Father willed 60 acres each to mother, Ann and all children. Marshall lived there until 1926 then moved to Wanette. Marshall West married Amie West on December 18, 1917 and was married by Rev. West who was one of the early day ministers. This was rather an odd case for a West to marry a West and be married by a West and not one of them any relation. Children: Barbara Jean West, infant born and died near Trousdale, Oklahoma. Birdie Ruth West born near Trousdale, Oklahoma; now in college studying, O.U., 1940 The first picnic he ever attended was at Old Burnett. The second picnic was at Old McColgan’s Spring just west of John Williams place when he was 12 years old. During the first picnic he remembers U.S. officers had six shooters in big leather belts and cartages shining. The men who made music at the picnic for the dance were Paul Toupan who played violin and Tom Tierney who played the guitar or base violin. People danced on a platform. There were more old people than young who danced. Page 7 Marshall used to go to Adell to Post Office once or twice a week for mail. The first postmaster there was Joe McCalister. The second postmaster was Bill Haney. The the post office was moved to Jefferson. Marshall West has an apple now that a boy dropped in his pocket at the old Anderson School house in August 1906. He took the apple home and dropped it into his trunk, it dried ino a smaller shaped apple. 30 years afterwards John Reed told him he put it into his pocket. He had often wondered who put it there.
