In 1843, Ann and family left England for Australia for the sake of her mother's health and landed at the port of Sidney. They went to Patterson township, New South Wales where Richard would oversee the sheep at a ranch. After serving the contact they lived in Australia and joined the Mormon church and emigrated to "Zion" (Utah in the USA). Ann’s father Richard was baptised 26 Sep 1854, Swan and Eliza baptised on 15 Oct 1854, Ann and her mother on 5 Nov 1854.
In May 25, 1855 the family left Australia on the ship "Lucy Ann" for America. They arrived in August at Pueblo de Los Angeles, California.
Ann married James Sanderson, a widow, on April 15, 1856 and moved to San Bernardino, California. In November, 1857 the townspeople gave the Mormons one week to move out. The Mormons sold what they could to purchase wagons and supplies and started the long journey to Utah. Ann was with child and having a hard time so their wagon left the rest of the company and travelled slower. Her daughter was prematurely born December 25, 1857 in then Las Vegas, Mexico. They named her Sarah.
James and Ann travelled to Cedar City, Utah then Beaver, Utah. They left Beaver a year later and settled in Farmington, Utah. James died of pneumonia in October, 1861. In 1864 they were called by the church to go north and settle Bear Lake Valley in St Charles, Idaho. Her parents died there, Richard in 1872 and Elizabeth in 1876.

She married William West in November 14, 1868 and they moved to Randolph, Wyoming (now Utah), bought a farm and built a log house. Records in Randolph state on August 21, 1869 a daughter, Eliza Jane was born to William and Sarah West. A second daughter, Elizabeth Catherine was born July 12, 1871. They were called again by the church to go back and help build St Charles, Idaho. Daughter, Emeline, was born in 1871 and Faithful Agnes born in 1874 and died on May 11, 1876. William Mark was born February 17, 1877 and died July 20, 1882. A son Jared was born February 13, 1879 and died April 21, 1879. Her son Harden Luke was born July 26, 1880 and a daughter, Ella, born December 27, 1882 and died January 6, 1883.
William was called by the church authorities to become Bishop of Paris, Idaho 1st ward. He sold the farm and the family moved to Paris. In 1892, William travelled on a Mormon mission trip to Kentucky. He was able to visit his family and see his brothers Mark, John, Tom and sister Jane (Barnhart) who he had not seen in 39 years. William was the Bishop in Paris for 13 years.
The church once again called on William to settle a new branch in South Alberta, Canada known then as Alberta, Northwest Territories. William and Ann sold their property, bought wagons, teams, and supplies then left the first week of August, 1898 on the 1000 mile trip to their new home. They arrived in Cardston, Alberta, Canada on September 22, 1898. With Bishop William and Ann were daughter E. Catie and husband Harvey Dunn and their two children; William Alvero and Merry Christmas; a grandson Lorenzo Dow Young Jr, a son of Loreno Dow Young and daughter Sarah Ann Sanderson and their married children Hardin and Minnie. Minnie was the daughter of William and his plural wife Elizabeth Taylor, who had deserted her child and husband when Minnie was a baby.
They all decided to homestead in Mountain View.
He passed away on June 16, 1909 and was buried in Mountain View Cemetery, Canada. She passed away 2 years later on April 9, 1922.
