William G. (Bill) West 57, a rancher and brand inspector of Grover, died October 3, 1964 at the University of Utah Medical Center in Salt Lake City.
Bill was born March 6, 1927 in Afton, to Homer Woodson West and Mary Estella Corsi. He was raised on the ranch north of Grover, which has always been his home.
Bill attended grade school in Grover and the Star Valley High School in Afton. He worked in Cokeville for Bill Mau and A.R. Linford and helped with his father's sheep on the range. Bill worked fro the forest service installing telephone lines where everything had to be packed in on mules and horses. In 1961 he worked at the Denver Stockyards, training to be a brand inspector, a job he has done to Jackson and Star Valley for 23 years.
He married Lois Hyde in February 15, 1950 in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Their first child, Jeanne was born February 1954 and died the same day. Tobe was born in 1962.
Bill was a charter member of the All American Cutter Racing Association. He owned his own team and was the youngest driver. Even after he quit racing, he supported and attended nearly every event. He donated his services as pickup man for the cutter races sponsored by the Shriners for the Children's Hospital whose motto was "The Cutters run so a child can walk."
He was also a charter member and helped organize the Piggin" String Roping Club. He participated in the calf roping team trying events and was a pickup man for their rodeos for many years.
He is survived by his son Tobe, and Lois west of Afton; his mother Estella West of Grover, brother Dale west of Cody and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter Jeanne,l father Homer W West. and brother Boyd W. West.

OCR text: [excerpts] John Thomas "Jack" West died Sept 24, 1991 in the Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo, UT from complications of Alzheimer's disease. Jack was born Oct 14, 1917 in Afton to Dr. George Washington and Alvina Tueller West.
Jack lived all his growing up years in star Valley except for various seasonal jobs outside the valley for sheep and cattle ranchers. Since his boyhood home also doubled as a hospital and surgery he said he never knew where his bed would be when night came. He started working with cattle and sheep on his dad's ranch and he always rode and drove good horses. He was an excellent stockman and while he had no formal training in veterinary medicine he was often called on to help neighbors with their sick or injured animals.
On Oct. 15, 1940 he married Algara (Gari) Poorman. They made their home in Auburn were they had a farm-ranch and drove school bus for many years. They were blessed with four children Mrs Layle (Teddy) Nield of Afton, Mrs Brad (Marsha) Transtrum, Bern ID, Mrs Terry Titensor, Thayne and John Kelly West, Salt Lake city UT. They have 14 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Jack filled a LDA stake mission and in 1984 he and his wife went to Australia and Papua, New Guinea.
