Notes from the Late Trevor West

The late Mrs. Blodwen (West) Boyle wrote the following in her genealogical notes:
"West, Trevor E., grandson of Wm. Laffoon West. Letter dated 5-14-65 to B W Boyle: 'We had an aunt Susan who md. Will Rowden, atty. & lived at Crocker, Mo;' 'My grandfather served in the 12th Mo. General Assembly from Miller Co. in 1842. I remember hearing about 16 slaves he (Wm. Laffoon West) [I believe she means John Laffoon West; John served in the State Assembly] owned, the best cost him $1600. They said he freed his slaves when the proclamation was issued, but they kept returning for food & the Union Army put him in jail at Rolla for while, but released him - he then moved to Illinois until the war ended."
