Dorothy "Dot" West was called to Heaven by our loving Lord on February 14, 2015.
Born on January 19, 1934, Dot spent her early years in rural Arkansas and Tennessee. She lost her father at the young age of 2, and Dot grew up to become the "glue" of the surviving family. Her best friend growing up was Reba Cash, the younger sister of the famed Johnny Cash.
After graduating college and marrying, Dot became an English teacher at Robert E. Lee High School, where she is best remembered as the teaching partner with Doc Young for Lee's renowned and award winning Humanities Program. She was adored by her students and certainly viewed as the "glue" to the Lee's Humanities program. She took a genuine interest in all high school students and took up tennis in her thirties. Students and tennis became her passion and she could be often found on the courts of Magnolia Woods Club. In the 1980's, Dot gave up the classroom to become an Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor for EBRP School Board's I Care program, where she remained until she retired.
In the later part of her life, she struggled with the effects of several strokes. She spent her last years in Houston with her two sons.
Dot is survived by her first husband, Don West; her brother, Bill Cooley; her two sons, Christopher West and Bret West; and several nieces and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two older brothers and her son, Joel.
