Funeral services for Mrs. Matilda Adaline Smith 85, who died at the home of her son Lee Smith on Route 2, Lenoir, at 3:30 o'clock Monday afternoon were held from Union Baptist Church on Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock. Rev. H.S. Benfield, Pastor of Sardis Baptist Church, Hudson, and Rev F A Wright Pastor of Hudson Methodist Church officiated. Interment followed in the church cemetery. The deceased was born in Caldwell County on December 15, 1859, daughter of the late Harvey and Nelly Watt West. She is the widow of the late Lemuel A Smith who died about twenty years ago. She was a member of Union Baptist Church. Mrs. Smith is survived by two sons, Lee Smith of Route 2, with whom she has made her home during recent years; and John Smith of Charlotte. A number of grandchildren and great grandchildren also survive.
