Ruth Hunter West, widow of the late Leonard S. West, of 108 Calhoun Road, Belton, died Monday, June 10, 2002, at Hospice House.
Born in Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late John Dow and Hattie LeMaster Hunter. She was a graduate of Due West Women's College, now Erskine College, where she was salutatorian of her class. She was a retired educator. She taught in Orangeburg County Schools, where she also served as a principal. She also taught in San Diego, Calif., and then later retired in Lenoir, N.C.
Surviving are brothers, Stuart L. Hunter of Belton and Wilburn C. Hunter of Belton; a stepson, Leonard West Jr. and his wife Loraine, of Milledgeville, Ga.; nephews, John V. Hunter Jr. and his wife Glenda, A. Gray Hunter and his wife Gale, Clifton Hunter and his wife Connie, Stuart L. Hunter Jr., and Joseph Dow and his wife Kathy; nieces, Norma M. Dill and her husband Brooks, Frances Hunter, Diana Dial, Frieda Belew and her husband Jim, and Esta Corell; several great-nieces and nephews; and two stepgrandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother, J. Vernon Hunter Sr.
